Napa Valley you won my heart

First up I have to say when anyone has asked me my favourite part of our trip my first thought has been Napa. Hands down I love you NYC but Napa will hold a special place in my heart as a destination I see myself going back to time and time again.

Why you ask?

Who can say no to amazing wine, good food and the best scenery I have ever seen and yes I have been to Tuscany and nothing can beat Italian food and wine but Napa has something you cant let go of and I'm yet to pin point what that 'it' factor is. (I will let you know when I figure the exact reason promise)

We were there for 48 hours and I spent months and months locating the top restaurants and wineries to go to and also checked out places we couldn't fit into our schedule not only for next time I head to Napa but for any of you my readers who are thinking of going.

VINEYARDS TO VISIT:

With over 500 wineries in the region its hard to cover them all in two days but the ones below are suggested as we either went to the winery or drove past also they are all very Instagramable.

* CADE Winery, Pangloss Cellars, Scribe, Opus One, Stags Leap, Alpha Omega, Domaine Carneros, Odette Estate and PlumpJack.

TO DO:

* Hot Air Balloon - Such a beautiful experience and a great way to see the region.

* Napa Valley wine train

* Golf  - If you are into this it has a world class course

* Horse Riding through vineyards

EAT

* Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch -  I can't rave about this place enough the service, the food and the wine were incredibly memorable. If you need a place to soak up all those wine tastings a long lunch here is worth every bite. (BELOW: Meyer lemon pie with swiss meringue and graham cracker)

*Boon Fly cafe - We ate here for 2 of our breakfasts. Food is rustic and the doughnuts are to die for. Simple home style meals and apparently lunch and dinner are good here also.

*Ad Hoc - Legendary Fried Chicken. $55 per person. 4 Courses always which is a salad, meat, cheese & dessert. MUST TRY I can't stop dreaming about this fried chicken.

* Auberge du Soleil - Known as one of the best hotels in Napa it also boasts a Michelin star restaurant and its the view that takes the cake. It sits high on top of a mountain with a view over its magnificent grounds and surrounding vineyards. Food, service and wine list which was served via IPAD is impeccable.

FOOD HIT LIST FOR NEXT TIME....

* French Laundry - SPLURGE. We couldn't get a reservation for this restaurant but next time its on my hit list. (Note: Ad Hoc is owned by this chef)

*Fremont Diner, Bottega, Cadet wine & Beer bar, El Dorado Kitchen, Solbar and Lucy Restaurant.

STAY

 Our Resort was the Carneros Resort & Spa and I was probably the most excited about this hotel in the lead up to our trip for various reasons which include the two pools (family and adult only pool), fitness centre (which is the best and largest I have ever seen), 3 restaurants( Boon Fly the red barn picture below has the best donuts ever), Bike hire which is a must to see the surrounding area especially just before sunset, Spa & Hilltop Bar.

Our room had an outdoor bath and shower, Outdoor Fire pit, Lounge area, Heated floors in indoor bathroom and open fire in the bedroom. I could go on about this Resort but it might take up alot of pages on this blog post.

Other hotel recommendations are:

Bardessono, Solage Calistoga, Meadowood and Silverado Resort & Spa
